"We recently completed an analysis of US shop performance.  And not surprisingly, we found the typical bell curve.  The top third of the shops are leading the system with an average of 14% increase in comparable shop sales.  This is fueled by a 35% increase in tires, a 12% increase in oil changes.  And an 8% increase in brakes.  Proving that tires and maintenance drive overall sales. 

 The middle third of the shops are reporting sales that are virtually flat. . .  And unfortunately there is the bottom third of the pack, which is dragging down the system with average comparable sales off by 15%.

We still have half the dealers to report third quarter earnings.      

And as you know I like to look at the dealer results with some key comparable metrics (looking at unit productivity.) 

But in the mean time (while we await the rest of the group,) I thought I would give you a quick snapshot of how store/facility productivity faired in the most recent quarter for AutoNation, Lithia, Penske, LKQ Corp and Midas (companies reporting last week.)
