May U.S. Light Vehicle Sales ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ According to Wards compilations of the data, U.S. light vehicle sales fell 0.7% on an absolute basis (year-over-year) in the month of May to 1.49 million. On a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) basis this equates to 16.045 million, so you’ll probably hear people say 16 or 16.1. On a daily selling rate basis, vehicle sales fell 4.6% as there were 25 days in the month this year versus 24 last year. We still don’t know of dealers that focus on a daily selling rate number (as many dealerships are open on Sundays and holidays which the selling rate excludes.)
