Automotive News this morning has some more details regarding UnitedAuto Group’s (UAG) goals with handling DaimlerChrysler’s distribution network of Smart dealers. Specifically, the article indicates UAG plans to sign 30 to 50 dealers (some in UAG’s network, some not,) in urban markets. The article indicates former Mercedes-Benz executive David Schrembi, will head up the group, and their goal is for the dealerships to be profitable within the first year. The article indicates that if the Smart dealerships have similar selling rates to the BMW mini stores, it could equate to 15,000 to 20,000 units per year.
